Howdy, folks!
Hello out there. Here's a bit about me! I’m from Houston, Texas, and I get back to my family there as often as possible. I graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Secondary Language Arts Education. Sunny skies and beautiful weather brought me to Los Angeles in 2005. This is my eighteenth year teaching, with the past eight being at King. My mother was a public school teacher for 38 years (and my 8TH-grade English teacher!), so clearly teaching is in my blood! In my free time, I love to read and to go jogging and hiking with my husband Bill and our two dogs, Nixon and Fat Louie. In 2012, we welcomed our first baby, Charles Joseph. Charlie loves to read, too. His favorite books right now are Sesame Street’s Zoo and The Little Blue Truck.
This year, I also became the Gifted/Technology/Arts advisor. My duties include being a liaison between teachers, parents and administrators. I also will help build programs and activities around our magnet's theme. Other duties include fundraising, promoting the magnet, building partnerships with the community and assisting our coordinator Valorie Milio with scheduling and placement.
I love teaching and look forward to another exciting, creative and inspiring year at King! Some of my favorite projects include our Banned Book Week videos, English's Birthday Party (my mom's lesson, still valuable 25 years later!), our voice projects, the Harlem Renaissance and other poems and prose of protest, and our year-end debate. The art teacher Mrs.Roth and I also have a partnership with MOCA this year and have two trips planned this year.
