Dear students and parents: 

 

Greetings from Ms. Laura Harkcom, your 7th grade English Language Arts teacher in the GAT Magnet at Thomas Starr King Middle School. I am looking forward to sharing my passion for reading, writing, speaking and listening with you! I am originally from Pittsburgh, PA, where I attended Carnegie Mellon University. There, I earned a B.A. in writing and theatre arts. 

 

Before I became a middle school teacher, I had a career as a writer and producer for film and television. I segued into teaching 10 years ago after becoming a mom. I have also taught writing at universities such as Chapman and Carnegie Mellon.
