Dear King Parents,
As students return to school after a two-day Thanksgiving Holiday, they will be three weeks away from completing their 1st semester of this school year. Please discuss with your children the importance of continuing to do their best in all their classes, studying hard and completing all of their homework assignments.
The “Triangle of Success,” is composed of Teachers, Parents and Students. Teachers will address the California State Standards in their lessons and implement strategies that will help improve student achievement. As parents you are a crucial component of this triangle.
Continue to monitor your child’s progress by checking the Academic Planners on a daily basis. Together, with your support our students will succeed. Intersession opportunities are available to make up “Fails” while your child is off track. Intersession for Track A is scheduled for Thursday, January 10, 2008 through Thursday, February 7, 2008. Session 3 of the Extended Learning Program begins Saturday, January 5, 2008 through Saturday, March 8, 2008. Please take advantage of these opportunities for your child to improve low grades or test scores.
Our teachers are presently implementing Reference Walls and Think Pair Share strategies with an emphasis on English Language Development. Next we will refine our use of cooperative learning strategies to help improve academic achievement. I encourage you to support our efforts in improving academic achievement by participating in our next series of parent workshops. This series, Reading is Fundamental provides parents with strategies on how to bring literacy into your home and read with your adolescent children. The series will begin on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 through Wednesday, February 13, 2008.
The winter break will begin on Monday, December 24, 2007 and continue through Tuesday, January 1, 2008. Students on Tracks B and C will return to school on Wednesday, January 2, 2008 to begin Semester 2. I wish all of you a safe and happy holiday season.
