Dear King Parents,
The 2007-2008 school year is off to a great start! Students and staff have been working hard and are implementing new programs and strategies to improve teaching and learning at T.S. King Middle School. The CHAMPS program is a positive, proactive approach to classroom management, and the Achievement Solutions protocol allows teachers the opportunity to collaboratively plan lessons and assess the students’ work to strive for continuous improvement.
In order to maximize their learning, I encourage all students to takeadvantage of our academic support and enrichment programs. Saturday school classes in English and Math resume on September 15th, and Intersession for Track B begins September 10th. The LACER after school program offers tutoring, homework help, and a variety of recreational programs and classes. The program is free of charge and takes place from 3:19 – 6:00 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and 1:39 – 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. In addition, as a Program Improvement school, we offer Supplemental Educational Services that include free private tutoring for qualified students. Please contact Ms. Malone or Mr. Martinez at 323-644-6700 for more information.
Finally, I hope you will join me at “Coffee with the Principal” on Tuesday September 4th from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. in the Parent Center. This will be a new, monthly opportunity for parents and staff to talk about current issues and events and get to know one another. We will get together on the first Tuesday of each month throughout the school year. I look forward to seeing you there!
