PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE June 2007

Dear King Parents,

We have worked hard this school year for the benefit of your children. Our teachers have planned, prepared, presented and reflected on your students’ learning. My teachers have learned together in our weekly professional development teacher workgroups dedicating their time and effort towards providing excellent learning opportunities for your children.

Our out-of-classroom staff has provided solid programs for your children to participate (Caught Being Good, Sudoku, Front of the Line Passes, Certificate of Merit, Saturday School Tutoring, Intersession, LACER, GEAR-UP Counseling, Jaime Escalante Math Enrichment, Extended School Year, Operation Bright Future, Gateway Counseling, IMPACT, Peer Mediation, Leadership, Community Club, Library Book Club, Emergency Preparedness Drills, 8th Grade Activities, Career Day, Beautification Day, Awards Night, Perfect Homeroom Attendance, and finally our 8th Grade Culmination).

Our Parent Center has provided a hub for you to join in weekly parent workshops, both on weekdays and Saturdays. Our Parent Center also hosts our CEAC and ELAC Advisory Council Meetings. Thank you to our parents who were vital members of these workshops and councils. You are appreciated.

I know that, you as parents, have done your best to guide your children through their education. Many trips to the public library, museums, and family outings are the destination of your weekends. Thank you for your time, parenting and willingness to help your children with their education.

Our students have studied and prepared for the California Standards Test (CST) which was taken in March and in May. Our Academic Performance Index (API) has continued to grow each year since 2000. I am anxious for our scores to show the hard work and effort of our students, teachers, parents and community. Go King Lions!!!

WE WILL CONTINUE TO WORK TOGETHER TO PROVIDE THE BEST LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AT SCHOOL AND AT HOME

Respectfully,
Charlene Hirotsu, Principal
