PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE FOR APRIL 2007

Dear King Parents,

From Monday, March 12 through Friday, March 23, 2007 our Track C students took the California Standards Test (CST) and the California Achievement Test (CAT/6). Tracks A and B will test from May 14 – 25, 2007. The State and Federal Government uses these exams to determine which schools have met their Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) as required under No Child Left Behind (NCLB). Every year, King has demonstrated growth. Last school year we met 26 of 33 AYP criteria. Our targets for the 2005-2006 school year were: 26.5% proficient in Math and 24.4% in English Language Arts. Below is a summary of our school’s results.

Our students need to understand the importance of studying hard, trying their best, and having respect for everything they do. The long term goal for our students is to pursue higher education and become productive citizens of our society.

As we approach the end of the 2006–2007 school year, I want to continue to stress the importance of working together to improve our school’s academic achievement. Our staff is working to improve student achievement by targeting language arts and mathematics to better meet the needs of all our students. I need your support in emphasizing the importance of always striving to do the best job possible. It is always a challenge to find time after a long day at work to have a conversation with your child, but I ask you to accept the challenge and dedicate time to have your child:
  • Tell you about what they learned today and assist them with their homework.
  • Show and explain what they have written in the student planner. It is important that parents monitor their child’s academic planners to help students organize and complete their work.
  • Discuss peer pressure with your child. Know who their friends are and help them resist negative peer pressure
Thank you for your efforts in providing guidance for your child during the “Middle School Years”. Being actively involved in your child’s education will improve achievement, behavior and attitudes about school.

WE WILL CONTINUE TO WORK TOGETHER TO PROVIDE THE BEST LEARNING ENVIRONMENT AT SCHOOL AND AT HOME

Respectfully,
Charlene Hirotsu, Principal
