Dear King Parents,
With the holiday season in full swing we encourage you to discuss with your children the importance of continuing to concentrate on their studies and attending school on a daily basis. We are all part of a team that supports the academic progress of all of our students. Our teachers are teaching to the California State Content Standards, preparing our students to do well on the California Standards Test given in early May. Students are putting forth their best efforts completing projects and assignments. We ask that all parents monitor their children’s progress by checking homework and the academic planners on a daily basis and communicating with teachers and counselors.
We want all of our students to take responsibility for their own academic achievement and earn the required credits necessary for culmination. Midterm report cards have been mailed home in time for you to receive them before the student led conferences scheduled for Thursday, December 9 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Student led conferences provide you and your children an opportunity to have conversations about
assignments and academic achievement in all of their classes. We look forward to your participation in our student led conferences. As a reminder to all of our parents, the following Friday, December 10, will be a minimum day. Classes end at 12:28 p.m.
Exciting happenings at King! The Board of Education has given King a final approval for the implementation of a new Environmental Studies Magnet on our campus next school year. The response from prospective parents has been overwhelming with over 100 parents participating in our most recent magnet tour. We encourage all parents of prospective 6th and 7th grade students to visit our campus and learn what Thomas Starr King has to offer. Any parent interested in enrolling their child in our new Environmental Studies Magnet will need to apply in person at King MS.
We are excited about expanding the public school choice options available to families and offering opportunities for significant community involvement and community service to our students. If you have any questions you may contact me directly at (323) 644-6710.
