Dear King Parents,
I would like to welcome back all of our continuing students and parents, and extend a special welcome to the families of all our new 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.
The 2010-2011 school year is off to a fantastic start! Our test scores and attendance continue to improve. Last year we had the highest attendance of any middle school in District 4, and our API score increased by 59 points to 737! Due to the hard work of our staff, students, and parents, our students made significant gains in English Language Arts and Math across all grade levels, making us the most improved middle school in LAUSD.
As we continue on our journey toward becoming a California Distinguished School, we ask for your continued support in establishing the importance of academic achievement, daily attendance, and adherence to all school and district policies. A strong partnership between school and parents is a vital part of our students’ success and future achievements.
In order to support study skills, organization and timely completion of all assignments, every King student receives an Academic Planner, free of charge. Students are asked to write their daily assignments and project due dates in their planners, and to keep their parents informed of their academic progress. The Academic Planner also serves as a ready source of information concerning our school’s programs and policies, and helps to establish communication with teachers, counselors and other school staff. Please help to ensure that your son/daughter uses his/her Academic Planner on a daily basis by asking to see it when s/he gets home from school. If a student loses the free planner provided by the school, the cost of a replacement planner is $5.
At King Middle school we truly value our parents’ participation and provide numerous opportunities for families to be involved with the educational program and governance of the school. Please join us at the following upcoming events:
- Coffee with the Principal 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. September 21st, in the Parent Center. Join us for coffee and pastries, meet school staff and other parents, talk about current school events, and learn about additional opportunities for parent involvement.
- Back to School Night 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 30th. This is an opportunity to meet with your children’s teachers and learn about their classroom expectations for this school year.
- Annual Title I Meeting 4:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Thursday, September 30th. Come receive information about the supplemental services and resources purchased with Title I funds.
I am excited to begin the new school year, and look forward to another year of growth and success!
