Dear Parents:
We are approaching the testing semester, ending one year to begin another. It is a very important time for your children to concentrate on their academics, being attentive in class, engaging in their classroom assignments, completing their homework assignments, and working towards their goal of receiving their middle school and high school diplomas.
As parents, please ensure that your middle school children get enough sleep for their bodies to function to their potential. (Children need at least 8 hours of sleep to function well at school). If your children wake up at 6:00 a.m., they need to be in bed by 10:00 p.m. If they don't eat until nutrition time (10:00 a.m.), they should have a small breakfast snack to nourish them before that time. Remember, if they last ate at 6:00 p.m. the night before, then they would not have eaten anything for 16 hours. Your child can also opt for the morning breakfast instead of the 10:00 a.m. nutrition. We begin serving breakfast at 7:00 a.m.
The California Standards Test (CST) is approaching and will be administered during the following two week window of dates:
Track C: Monday, March 20, through Friday, March 31, 2006
Tracks A/B: Monday, May 15, through Friday, May 26, 2006
Our task is to empower our students with knowledge so they may be able to comprehend, apply, reason, analyze and synthesize that knowledge. With your assistance in monitoring your children in their daily lives, they will be come to school nourished, well rested, with clear minds to manage their classes, with homework in hand with your blessings, and with beautiful smiles on their faces.
Our students return to us after attending high school saying that they miss the warmth, caring and nurturing environment that they feel at King. It is with our joint effort (School and Parents) that this environment exists. I know each parent/guardian works to their potential to provide a good home environment for their children. I also know that each teacher/counselor/dean/support staff/administrator also works to their potential to provide a good school environment for your children.
Our children are 10, 11, 12 and 13 years old. Their responsibility also plays into this equation. The efforts of SCHOOL + HOME + STUDENT = SUCCESS.
Sincerely Your Principal,
Charlene Hirotsu
