OUR PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE FOR SEPTEMBER 2009

Principal’s Message

Dear King Parents,

I would like to welcome back all of our continuing students and parents, and extend a special welcome to the families of all of our new 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.  As “King Lions,” you are part of a team of whose goal is to ensure the academic success of every child.  King students, staff, and parents need to work together to provide a quality education and a safe and positive learning environment.

As valuable members of our team, please help us emphasize the importance of respect for all students, staff and parents, attendance and punctuality, adherence to our uniform policy, and pursuit of academic excellence.

All King students receive an Academic Planner to support organization, study skills, and completion of all assignments. Students are asked to write their daily assignments and project due dates in their planner to keep their parents informed of their academic progress. It also serves as a ready source of information concerning our school’s programs and policies.  Please ensure that your son/daughter uses his/her Planner on a daily basis.

It is very important for your children to concentrate on academics and work towards their goal of receiving their middle school diploma.  As you may know, all of the grades earned by 6th and 7th grade students will count towards receiving their diploma at the end of 8th grade. Please assist your children with their daily homework, monitor their planners for organization and completion, follow up on project due dates and establish communication with your children’s teachers and counselors.  Report cards will be mailed home at approximately 5-week intervals to give you a regular indication of your child’s progress.

Parents have the opportunity to take advantage of the Supplemental Education Services (SES) offered by LAUSD through the Beyond the Bell Branch.  Students who qualify for free or reduced meal tickets are eligible for free tutoring services. The deadline for these services is 5:00 p.m. October 16, 2009. For more information you may contact Mr. Lovo or Mrs. Alvarado at (323) 644-6743.  King will also have a tutoring program every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7:00 a.m. – 7:45 a.m. and/or 3:15 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. for any student who needs extra help in Math or English.
